Role: Consultant & Pod Lead
Team: Mighty Chondrias

In this month’s #TeamKC Spotlight, we feature Angel Kleiman, Consultant and Pod Lead for the Mighty Chondrias at Karchem Consulting. Angel shares how her early interest in science and bioinformatics shaped her path into consulting, how she grew alongside Karchem, and why she is committed to helping life science companies make better use of their data.
As a consultant working at the intersection of science and technology, Angel’s foundations began during her undergraduate studies at the University of Rhode Island, where she double majored in cell and molecular biology and Chinese with a concentration in bioinformatics. During this time, she worked in academic labs, explored computational biology, and served as a teaching assistant. Her early teaching experience shaped how she approaches both client enablement and team development today. She also studied abroad in Beijing, an experience that strengthened her communication skills and adaptability and continues to influence the way she collaborates with clients. Angel hopes to one day use her Chinese language skills professionally as Karchem expands.
“I knew I wanted something beyond the bench that would still allow me to stay close to science while working on problems that were intellectually challenging,” Angel said.
That drive led her to pursue her master’s in bioinformatics from Johns Hopkins University, which she completed while beginning her consulting career at Karchem. As Karchem grew from a two-person operation to the size it is today, Angel discovered that the company offered the technical depth, scientific relevance, and client partnership she had been searching for.
“I realized this is exactly where I want to be and what I was looking for,” she said. “I have seen Karchem Consulting evolve and grow, and it is exciting to be part of the team shaping that trajectory.”
Angel’s work at Karchem centers on helping biotech companies manage their data, optimize their informatics systems, and work more efficiently. She is passionate about understanding how scientists work and identifying ways to eliminate manual bottlenecks so researchers can spend more time on science. Her work includes designing strong data models, building automations, improving system usability, and uncovering opportunities for clients to streamline their workflows. Angel has a particular passion for untangling complex scientific and data challenges. She is energized by figuring out how things work, why they break, and how to rebuild them in a way that feels intuitive for users. Helping scientists save time and trust their data is one of her favorite parts of consulting.
Above all, she says she stays because of the people and the culture.
“Our reputation has helped us expand to where we are now,” she said. “We have built trust and reliability with clients, and we are true partners to them.”
As a pod lead, Angel’s responsibilities extend beyond technical development. She describes her role as a blend of consultant, strategist, mentor, and team builder. Her background in teaching continues to guide her leadership style.
“Teaching has always been part of who I am,” she said. “I love helping people build confidence and develop new skills. My goal is to support people while also giving them the space and guidance to grow. When individuals grow, the team grows, and that is how truly high-performing teams are built.”Angel says Karchem’s approach to consulting is unique. The team not only implements software but also learns how each client operates and adapts as their science evolves. Their work goes far beyond configuration because Karchem aims to become an extension of each client’s organization.
“We have to be like chameleons and Swiss Army knives,” she said. “We fit into any nook or cranny of a client’s company and help them move forward.”
Outside of work, Angel enjoys fitness, reading through her extensive home library, and traveling whenever opportunities arise. She says these interests reflect the same curiosity and love of learning that drive her professionally, whether she is exploring a new city, picking up a new book, or finding a better way for scientists to work. Much of her free time is also spent with her husband Brian and Cavapoo, Ahsoka, who often joins her on her adventures.
“Whenever I get the chance, I want to travel, whether it is for work, for family, or for friends,” she said. “I love experiencing new places. It keeps me grounded and reminds me to stay curious.”
